To Spam Or Not To Spam

Some time ago I received an e-mail of a worried internet surfer. He was just starting with the internet and he had already met the 'spam' term sometimes...He didn't know what exactly it was but he could conclude he'd better not use the spam monster...

As I wanted to explain to him what the spam beast is I remembered that the internet is flooded every day with thousand of newbies and I recalled 'my first time'...

Spamming is very tempting as at first sight you can think it will be very profitable...and easy as it is free...
But, if you want to market your product effectively this is one of the methods you absolutely AVOID using.

You should be aware of the difference between unsolicited email also called spam and direct email promotion...
This difference can mean the difference between a successful internet adventure and a hated and despised product...

Now what I replied :

Hello,

First of all I want to thank you for trusting our site to help you learn the wonderful world of the internet. As for your question you will notice that after you have been on the internet for a short while, you will know what spamming is...

You will notice that your inbox will be flooded with e-mails that you didn't ask for ... In the beginning you will probably read them but after a while you will be angry that you have to clean your inbox from undesired e-mail.
Maybe you wonder how people get your e-mail address... Well, many spammers are notorious for harvesting email addresses from e.g. classifieds, subscription, FFA pages...everywhere you have left an e-mail address.
Each address receives a short message to promote their service ... Sending out thousands or millions of e-mails a day ... Yes it's possible... The consequenses can vary but each one of them is at least unpleasant : From frustration with the owner of the inbox to even shutting down small ISP's that can't handle the load.

If you are on the internet, you will inevitably get some junk email. But if you are running a business you will be overwhelmed with schemes...

So I hope that I made it clear that spamming is something you should waste your time on ... A much more effective method of e-mail marketing is the ' targeted e-mail campaign'...You start your own e-zine wihch people CAN subscribe to and in that way you will build a database of people who are interested in your service or product :


I must admit that a newsletter is one of the elements to success... For us it's the perfect way to stay in touch with your visitors and let them know what you offer ...
